STAR KEY
Story Synopsis | Back Jacket Summary
Sixteen year old Alex Castor has felt out of place his entire life. Anxious and self-conscious, he has always preferred the safety of invisibility to the uncertainty of engaging with the world around him. When tragedy strikes, he feels more alone and lost than ever before. Consumed by grief and unable to imagine a future beyond his loss, Alex retreats further into himself, becoming a ghost in his own life.
But everything changes when a series of strange dreams about a mysterious key opens a path between realities. Alex, along with Ellie, an accidental companion, find themselves trapped in the Mindscape, a shifting world shaped by thoughts and emotions, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur.
Guided by unlikely allies, Alex and Ellie learn their only way home is to reach the Between, a place where all realities intersect. To get there, Alex will need to face the fear, and self-doubt that have always defined him.
Armed with a map that shows only where they’ve been, but not where they're going, the pair journey through a world filled with monsters born from anger, sorrow, and imagination, and outrun a spreading darkness that threatens to consume the entire Mindscape.
As they face the dangers lurking within this strange world together, Alex begins to uncover secrets about the nature of loss, friendship, courage, and the hidden connections between worlds that bind all of us together.
